Celta commanded but couldn’t overcome Villareal’s defensive wall

Celta fell against Villareal, which displayed solid and outstanding defensive play after getting ahead on the scoreboard. The skyblues owned the ball in the second half and looked for the draw until the final whistle. The goal posts on two occasions and a good Asenjo under the posts avoided it.

The match against Villarreal was very intense until the end. It had stages in which both teams were very equal, and others in which Celta clearly dominated. The away team got ahead 10 minutes before halftime in a defensive maladjustment which Fornals took advantage of to head the ball to the back of the net in the penalty area, all alone.

After halftime Celta improved progressively, owning the ball and displaying a good passing game. Villareal defended patiently and solidly. Emre Mor went into the game to energize Celta’s offense and from his boots the best plays occurred, the most obvious one went under Asenjo’s legs and hit the post. The Vigo team tried its best to draw until the very end and almost had the draw. In injury time, Sergi Gomez shot the ball in mid-air with his right foot but it went high. Now its time to think about the Galician derby against Deportivo the next match-day.
