Celta progressively took over the match to keep on fighting for a Euro spot (2-0)

RC Celta

Celta added three key points to remain protagonists in the struggle for European positions. After a forgettable first part, Celta took control of the match and played well in the second half, when Iago Aspas and Maxi Gomez did not miss his their appointment with the goal. Celta is temporarily positioned in the seventh place and Tuesday faces Girona, a direct rival in the race for Europe. Celtismo has reason to keep dreaming.

The first half had options for both teams, but with greater weight from Eibar. The sky-blues had three dangerous approaches, all of them with a great Aspas involved, and the Basques had the best ones. The vagueness and good work of the goalkeepers prevented that none of the teams got on the score in the first forty-five minutes of play.

Halftime the Emre Mor ended up wonderfully for Celta that progressively took control of the match. Fifteen minutes into the second half, Celta opened the scoreboard in a counter-attack finished on the first touch by a sensational Aspas on a pass by Emre Mor. Unzué’s team took control of the match and went head for the victory. Sergi Gómez almost finished off the match after scoring a header which was called off-sides, but finally it was the Uruguayan Maxi Gomez who certified the win. Ten minutes to full time, again in a counter, captain Hugo Mallo put in an impressive sprint and assisted the Uruguayan to score the definitive 2-0.

Aspas (16) and Maxi (13) add up to twenty-nine goals and are reaffirmed as the second pair of most lethal strikers of first division. With these three points Celta gets in the fight for Europe, a long race that continues this Tuesday with a new league game against Girona.
