Maxi Gómez reaches round of 8 while Sisto and Aspas say good bye

RC Celta

Different luck for the skyblue national players at the Russia World Cup. Iago Aspas and Sisto said goodbye to the tournament in the round of 16, both after the penalty shootout after drawing 1-1. Maxi Gomez, however, celebrated Uruguay’s qualification to the round of 8 and who will face France.

Iago Aspas (Spain)

Undeserved final for the skyblue player in the World Cup. The striker from Moaña entered the match against Russia at the 79 minute mark, replacing Diego Costa and with 1-1 on the scoreboard. His presence gave freshness to the Spanish attack, but the “La Roja” was not able to topple the Russian wall in regulation time nor in the overtime. The qualification was decided in a penalty shootout in which first Koke missed and then Aspas. Russia, without missing any penalties, did not need to launch the last.

Pione Sisto (Denmark)

Croatia-Denmark had a similar story to that of Spain-Rusia. The match went into overtime with a 1-1 draw and the scoreboard did not change. In the penalty shootout Croatia had a better aim and passed to the round of 8. Pione Sisto entered the pitch in second half of the overtime.

Maxi Gómez (Uruguay)

Maxi enjoyed his team’s win form the bench against Portugal. The team from Uruguay defeated the Iberian team 2-1 and will now face France in the round of 8 (Friday 6th of July). The skyblue striker did not get any playing action this time.
